Student Assistance Program

Program Objectives

The Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a collaborative partnership between Allegheny Children’s Initiative and local school districts to support students who are struggling in the school environment. Our SAP Liaisons work in partnership with trained, multidisciplinary school teams and their staff to identify students’ obstacles to school success.

Working in collaboration with the student and their family, SAP teams provide information to make choices that best fit the needs of the student. Support may be in the form of connections within the school environment or their community, and when needed, to a variety of behavioral health and substance use services. Our SAP liaisons recognize the value of parent/guardian involvement and strive to provide professional and confidential support to students and their families.

Allegheny Children’s Initiative provides SAP services in eight local school districts in Allegheny County:

  • Chartiers Valley
  • Keystone Oaks
  • McKeesport
  • Mt. Lebanon
  • Northgate
  • Penn Hills
  • Penn Hills Charter School of Entrepreneurship
  • Sto-Rox
  • West Jefferson Hills

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Students from elementary through high school who are experiencing barriers to school success due to suspected mental health concerns and/or substance use, can be referred to SAP by their parents/guardians, school personnel, peers, or themselves. Please reach out to the student’s school counselor for more information on how to refer.

SAP helps students overcome barriers in order that they achieve, remain in school and advance. Reach out today if you are concerned about a student.
