I’ll never forget how my support of a young person helped them feel heard and understood. This particular young person was being mistreated in school by other students because of their race and cultural background. I was able to truly empathize with them regarding this situation since I come from a similar cultural background. They were thankful that they had someone in their corner to advocate for them and no longer felt afraid to reach out to adult authority figures. I think just knowing that I could be a listening ear for this young person and letting them know that someone who looks like them can be successful is gratifying in its own way.
Favorite part of my job:
My favorite part of my job is making a positive impact in people’s lives and working with children. I came to Allegheny Children’s Initiative because I believe in the agency’s mission and advocate for diverse voices to be heard.
